Ranger orientaiton

Yesterday was our first day of work. We met our ranger trainer and met our training crew. I have a really crew. Our ranger trainer is from utah and she holds the record for the ranger marathon. The ranger marathon is hiking from the most northern camp to the most southern camp. It is a thirty seven mile hike and you have to complete it in less than twenty four hours. There are two variations. You can either hike with a thirty pound pack or run it with a camel back. My ranger holds the record for the second variation at 9 hours. She is from utah and is a cross country coach. We are going to break 9 hours this summer. Everyone up here slacklines which is awesome. There is always a line up. Slacklining with people who know different tricks makes you improve really fast. The stars out here are amazing and the low humidity couldn't be better. Today we had a shake down with all our gear because tomorow we leave for our five day ranger training hike in the backcountry. I have my pack all packed with everything i need. It is weighing around 45 lbs with water and food included. It is so neat meeting people from around the country and some from outside the country. Tonight we have an opening campfire then a staff dance at the villa philmonte(a minature philbrook). The band playing is apparently very good. It is going to be a good time tonight. We eat down there, then there is a huge ultimate game, and finally the band jams into the night. I could not of asked for a better way to spend this summer. Great weather, meeting people, having fun, camping, and getting paid! till next time...
Peace

Heather Wilson is amazing... I was one of her team mates when she did her first ranger marathon... we were slow and it took us almost 10 hours then. :)
